This is CleanTV family-friendly national news on demand. I’m Jerry McGlothlin reporting what’s happening on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.

-----------

(graphic of American flag) From all of us at CleanTV we hope you had a blessed Independence Day holiday weekend, reflecting on our God-given heritage and how we may take back our moral nation from the jaws from its immoral usurpers. May God have mercy on the remnant who still loves Him and puts him ahead of all else, in this order: God, family, country. We hope you all enjoyed the extra day off work. (end graphic)

----------------

Story #1: And speaking of work, the fallout continues over Friday’s jobs report showing (graphic of jobs down) 125,000 more jobs vaporizing last month. That’s another eight of a million unemployed U.S. citizens falling victim to the change agent currently occupying The White House. And what is Barack’s solution to getting the millions of legal U.S. citizens jobs? (end graphic) Legalizing millions of illegal citizens to take millions more jobs. Oh, if that math doesn’t add up, it’s because it’s…ObamaNomics 101, where one times zero equals one.

-------------

Story #2: And speaking of protection, Barack Obama continues to play out the scene from (graphic) The Godfather movie where Sonny Corleone extracts protection money from the local merchants. Instead of apologizing for 21 people killed in a shootout near the Arizona border last week, Obama remained true to form playing the role as the (end graphic and new graphic of Al Capone) Al Capone of Chicago politics, brazenly daring to withhold securing the Southern U.S. border unless Republicans give him immigration 'reform.' Meanwhile twenty-one people have been killed in a shoot-out between drug pushing, migrant-smuggling gangs about 10 or 12 miles from the Southern Arizona border near Hermosillo, Mexico. (end graphic) With the majority of Americans supporting the Arizona immigration laws for this very reason--escalating murders by (graphic of drug gang) drug and human trafficking gangs, Obama should once and for all cease and desist his unconstitutional, treasonous push to merge the U.S. with Mexico. But he's Obama, citizen of the world, and he does whatever he wants. (end graphic) In Obamaspeak: No constitution? Now problem. But in the collective chorus of red-blooded-
Americans: Let the impeachment hearings begin!

--------------

Story #3: Our final story tonight is a different view of the (graphic of general) General Stanley McChrystal controversy by CleanTV political and military analyst, Captain Jim Kinney (USN ret.) who presents this commentary that is apropos after this extended Independence Day holiday weekend:

Now that a few days have passed, let’s consider a different perspective on the Gen McChrystal controversy than has been presented this far by either his supporters or distracters. First a few established facts:

1. Gen McChrystal is neither stupid nor naïve.
2. After reviewing the Rolling Stone article he offered no objections to the content.
3. Gen McChrystal knew the article would (and should) prompt the administration to take action that would probably cost him his career.

If true, Gen McChrystal must have had a different agenda than what has been discussed so far. (end graphic)

Let me suggest he used the (graphic of Rolling Stone Magazine across bottom a screen full length) Rolling Stone Magazine brilliantly.

First, releasing his comments to them gave him much more visibility than any conservative or main stream airing would have produced.

Secondly, he was able to get a left leaning publication to print harsh criticism of the Administration’s political players in Afghanistan…something they would not be prone to do if it weren’t considered to be part of a larger story. (end graphic)

Why would the general do this? I suggest he sacrificed himself for a greater good. Can you imagine the turmoil a man of character faces sending young men to die in a cause unlikely to have success without the full support of the Administration?

Even though the President said he and General Stanley McChrystal were in agreement on the counter insurgency (also referred to as COIN) strategy in Afghanistan, he shorted the troops requested and established an artificial political deadline for withdrawal. As a result, the general began the battle handicapped by his boss’ political calculations.

The COIN strategy requires not only a strong military presence to suppress the insurgents, but a strong political presence to deliver dependable power, clean water, roads, education and other services to the indigenous population in order to win them to our side.

What is evident from the Rolling Stone piece is that the general had no confidence in either of the key State Department officials assigned these responsibilities. He clearly believed that both Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke and Ambassador Karl Eikenberry were not only incompetent, but actively engaged in undercutting the military efforts and the elected government making the achievement of the COIN objectives impossible to achieve. Being responsible to send young Americans into harm’s way without a realistic possibility of success put Gen McChrystal in an untenable position.

Comparisons to the (graphic of Viet Nam war protesters) Viet Nam conflict are gaining play in the discussions of Afghanistan policy…and as one who served in SE Asia during that conflict, the political ineptitude being displayed in Afghanistan is beginning to rival the incompetence of the political leadership of Johnson and McNamara which cost thousands of American lives and accomplished no discernable national objectives.

In the1960’s our senior military leadership was complicit in the Viet Nam carnage because none would risk their next star for the lives of the men assigned to their care. They would not risk the political reprisal of disagreeing with their civilian masters. (end graphic)

As an aside, whether the COIN strategy being attempted in Afghanistan can succeed is open to question. The surge in Iraq turned the war and made (graphic of Gen. Petraeus) Gen Petraeus an American hero. But the situations are not analogous. In addition to the differences in terrain, in Iraq, when the indigenous population began to support us, they were turning against foreign fighters from Syria, Iran and Egypt. In Afghanistan, the insurgents are indigenous to the population making the job of winning the hearts of the people much more problematic.

However, it is a certain fact that the COIN strategy cannot succeed in Afghanistan without the full support of the administration. There must be no artificial deadlines for withdrawal and the current political appointees to Afghanistan must be replaced.

From this perspective, Gen McChrystal has made a heroic sacrifice, laying his career on the line for his men. He is a warrior that does not suffer fools well and will not send young Americans to their death on a fool’s mission. (end graphic)

We wish Gen Petraeus well, but without much stronger support from the Administration within a few months, he will be a frustrated as Geeral Stanley McChrystal…it remains to be seen if he will be as honorable.
