This is CleanTV family-friendly national news on demand. I’m Jerry McGlothlin reporting what’s happening on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.

-----------

Story #1: The Liberty Counsel has filed a lawsuit to overturn a recent (graphic) ban on distributing Bibles on the public school campuses of Collier County, Florida. For years, the school board has allowed World Changers to distribute free Bibles to interested students during off-school hours on Religious Freedom Day, but now school officials claim the Bibles do not provide any educational benefit to the students and distribution has to stop. (end graphic) The Collier County School District policy specifically allows the distribution of literature by nonprofit organizations, but only with the approval of the superintendent and the Community Request Committee, whose members are appointed by the superintendent. Approval has now been denied to World Changers, despite the fact that its distribution included a disclaimer of any school endorsement or sponsorship and that receiving a Bible was purely voluntary. The district, nevertheless, censored the message of World Changers simply because it included the Bible.

Story #2: Some are saying it is time to lift the trade and travel ban with Cuba. (graphic) The 50-year-old embargo is a remnant of the Cold War, but now could see that grip loosened if some lawmakers get their way. First steps are being taken to loosen trade and travel with Cuba through the efforts Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson and Representative Jerry Moran, a Kansas Republican. (end graphic) The bipartisan bill has broad support as a congressional panel prepares to tackle the ban. The US Chamber of Commerce is also solidly behind the move. Patrick Kilbride, Senior Director of the America’s Department of the US Chamber of Commerce says the embargo hasn’t been effective. Previous proposals to lift the ban have failed because of concerns with human rights concerns. While Amnesty International also supports lifting the ban, UK-based Kerry Howard, Department Director of the America’s program of Amnesty International, says it is critical human rights abuses not be forgotten. In 2009 US farm exports totaled $528 million – down from $710 million in 2008.

-----------

Story #3: (graphic) Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is currently on trial in Chicago for corruption related to charges he tried to sell or exchange for favors the U.S. Senate seat vacated by president-elect Barack Obama. Valerie Jarrett, an Obama confidante and one of those the candidates Blagojevich was considering as a possible replacement, decided she preferred working for the Obama administration than becoming the U.S. Senator from Illinois. (end graphic) When Tom Balanoff, local president of the Service Employees International Union, mentioned U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) was interested in the appointment, Blagojevich, according to testimony given this week by Balanoff, said the impeached Governor told him, "If she had any ancestors who came over on slave ships, she'd be fine."

-------------------
Story #4: With economies attempting to get back on track - there is a major global productivity drain. It is called (graphic) the World Cup. In Italy auto workers went on strike when they were told they couldn’t watch the World Cup while they were on the job. German companies have set up office viewing areas to keep employees from defecting on game days. Brazil virtually shut down when its team played – with businesses and schools closing and even elective surgeries have been known to be postponed so games may be watched. (end graphic) One study suggests Europe’s largest economy – which is Germany – losses more than 8 billion dollars in productivity during the World Cup. Surveys in Britain project output losses there are between 1.5 and 3 billion in US dollars. The 2010 tournament is expected to break attendance and viewship records and hat is a lot people who are keeping their eyes on the ball and not on their jobs.

------------

Story #5: On June 19 CleanTV news was one of the first news organizations in the world to report a story that has just come to pass: The U.S. government declaring war on the states. I shall now read that story word for word, once again. The only difference is that it is no longer a 'leak.' It is now a formal lawsuit: Civil War against the sovereign states: The federal government of the United States of America has just (graphic) declared war on the states! The Obama administration has just leaked information indicating they are going to file a lawsuit over the Arizona immigration law. We've heard of states seceding from the union but now Obama has the union seceding from the states! in all out war in what the White House appears to be saying, "No constitution? No problem!" (end graphic)
