This is CleanTV family-friendly national news on demand. I’m Jerry McGlothlin reporting what’s happening on Thursday, July 8, 2010.

-----------

Story #1: Believe it or not, NASA, the space agency, has a new mission that most of us have never heard of. And this might shock you. The administrator of that agency, Charles Bolden, says his “foremost” goal is (graphic of mock NASA logo) improving relations with the Muslim world. Bolden told Al Jazeera, the Arab news service, he was under direct orders from Obama to strengthen ties with Islam and that doing so would help to advance space travel. One of his goals is to “help Muslim nations feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering.” Bolden then told reporters that the US had no intention of traveling to Mars without “international help.” (end graphic) But CleanTV has this question of Obama and the administrators at NASA: (graphic of scary looking man) Just how much are you going to teach terrorists about creating and launching rockets? And how can we be assured that these terrorists will your gift of rocket science for peaceful purposes? (end graphic)

--------------------------

Story #2: (graphic) Censorship seems to be a hot topic in government circles, these days. The Senate recently voted to support a bill that would allow the President to block Internet content during “emergencies” for up to 4 months with no additional congressional authorization. (end graphic) Now, the Transportation Security Administration has decided to ban employee access to websites that it deems “controversial.” Sites now off limits to the government employees include chat messaging, controversial opinion, criminal activity, extreme violence, and gaming. Curiously, triple-X sites were not included in the ban. By the way, the “who and how” of determining controversial content was never explained in the TSA e-mail to its staff members.

Story #3: Another balloon launch is set for later this month that will send thousands of Gospel tracts into communist North Korea. (graphic) The Gospel tracts are attached to helium filled balloons from a number of locations near the border, and then when its determined the winds will carry them into the north they're released as other Christians pray the payloads will reach those in need. (end graphic) Officials have estimated that some 200-thousand people are in prison in North Korea, many for practicing the Christian faith. Many believers are held in reeducation labor camps and only set free from terrible conditions if they'll renounce their faith. Many of the balloons also carry the testimonies of other Christians who use a different name to tell their story of their faith in Christ. The persecution is so severe in North Korea, someone even caught carrying a Bible can be imprisoned.

---------------

Story #4: "The Asheville Citizen-Times calls it "dueling billboards." Not long after a group of atheists and agnostics placed a number of billboards in reference to the "Pledge of Allegiance" along a number of interstate highways that declared, (graphic) "One nation indivisible," that purposely omitted the words "under God" from the phase..... other billboards were soon erected to support the phrase. The newspaper now reports, the Reverend Ralph Sexton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville has received funding for at least four digital billboards with the message, "One nation, under God." (end graphic) The church is trying to raise funds for other billboards around the state that they hope will support their Christian views including one at the location that the atheists and agnostics paid for in Charlotte on Billy Graham Parkway.

-------

Story #5: The conviction of a prominent Hindu-nationalist politician on charges of murder is being seen by many Christians as an opportunity for justice to be finally served in India. The case stems from the outburst of violence by Hindus directed at Christians in eastern Orissa State in the fall of 2008. (graphic of body burning) During that violence, more than 90 Christians were killed, countless others were injured, at least five-thousand homes destroyed, leaving 54-thousand Christians homeless and 300 churches burned. (end graphic) Until this conviction of Manoj Pradhan (MAN-of Prad-han) many similar trials ended without a conviction due to threats against witnesses, jurors and the authorities by other Hindu militants. The conviction also reflects a breakthrough for the cause of justice, as Pradhan (Prad-han) had been previously acquitted on six other murder charges. Justice was finally served when a six-year old child gave graphic decisive testimony against Pradhan (Prad-han) after describing to the court, the brutal slaying of her parents. Pradhan (Prad-han) was sentenced to seven-years in jail for the murders of the child's parents.

--------------

Story #6: Grave concern is being expressed for the rise in threats to the lives of Christians in Afghanistan. Officials with Christian Solidarity Worldwide are concerned because of what they call, high-level leaders within the country calling for the immediate execution of converts to Christianity. (graphic of Christian cross/persecution) According to sources in the region, over twenty Afghan Christians have been reported missing while a number of non-Christians.....known to be associated with "Westerners," are also described as being in danger. Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports the escalation of violence was triggered after a documentary by an independent TV station in Afghanistan that revealed the names and faces of supposed Afghan Christian converts. (end graphic) Soon after the TV documentary, the secretary of the Afghan Parliament's Lower House issued a call for the execution of Christian converts from Islam.
----------------------

Story #7: The Presbyterian Church is now considering redefining the definition of marriage to include same sex couples. (full screen graphic of Sodom burning) Their newly-elected moderator, Cynthia Bolbach, is a supporter of homosexual marriage, but Carmen Fowler, president of the Presbyterian Law Committee, says initiatives such as on same sex marriage are to blame for declining membership in the Presbyterian denomination, since the Presbyterian body is now detaching itself from its head, Jesus Christ. (end graphic)
