Story #1: Our lead story is about the remarkable new face of criminal justice where amateur videos posted to the Internet were used in court to vindicate students accused of “disorderly belligerent. Yesterday after the prosecution viewed the videos, he dropped the case on the spot. Here are the details. In 2003, the Justice Department under the Bush administration took Prince George’s, Maryland, County to court and won, getting the court’s authority for the feds to maintain oversight of the County’s police department following a rash of reports citing excessive force against unarmed and, often, innocent citizens. Here’s some video footage provided by NPR (video: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/04/police_beating_of_u_of_md_stud.html ) High-profile criminal attorney (graphic) Rene Sandler was able to track down vindicating video for her 20-year-old client from a Random good Samaritan and excellent amateur videographer to show beyond the shadow of a doubt that the probationary anger-management rehab for the Maryland policemen—which just ended last year—did not work. Sandler is among several lawyers working civil actions against the police department for, once again, police brutality and excessive force. (end graphic) All of the cases this time around have a common-thread incident dating back to March 3rd of this year, when the county’s horseback riot police were on the scene in University of Maryland’s College Park. The school had just upset rival Duke in a basketball game and students were out en masse, celebrating the victory in the streets. Sandler’s client, like several other students throughout the night, said he was violently attacked by mounted police without provocation. And thanks for amateur video uploaded to the Internet, even the prosecution had to agree.

Story #2: And speaking of law enforcement, the Obama administration is launching an draconian eavesdropping initiative dubbed "Perfect Citizen" for the purpose of detecting cyber assaults on government agencies and private companies that run key infrastructure backbones, including electrical grids, nuclear facilities, etc. Surveillance by the NSA would be conducted by placing sensors within computer networks and throughout Internet pipelines, seeking suspicious chats. Raytheon Corporation is the contractor that won the classified contract, valued around $100 million, to spy on citizens and potential terrorists alike.
--------------------
Story #3: (graphic) Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has vetoed the same-sex civil unions bill that would have given homosexuals, lesbians and opposite-sex couples all the same rights and benefits the 50th state provides to married couples. The Republican governor, who is Jewish told a news conference in Honolulu that she did not base her decision to veto House Bill 444 on her personal opinion, religious beliefs, or on what political impact it would have on any future political election. (end graphic) She did recommend the measure be presented to the voters of Hawaii in 2012. Hawaii Governor Lingle took the full 45 working days allowed under state law, since the legislation was approved in late April to meet with representatives of organizations and individuals on both sides of the issue before making her decision public. The American Civil Liberties Union has already threatened a lawsuit over the matter.

Story #4: It seems even CNN has its limits. After the network’s senior editor of Middle East affairs, (graphic) Octavia Nasr sent out internet tweets proclaiming her “respect” for a newly deceased Hezbollah cleric, the left-leaning media outlet gave Nasr the boot. (end graphic) The man she praised, Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, was on record supporting suicide bombings and was thought to have masterminded the 1980’s Marine Corps barracks bombing in Lebanon. He was also quoted as saying that Zionists had inflated the numbers of those slain in the holocaust. Nasr later apologized for her comments but it was too little, too late, and she remains on the outs at CNN. ------------------
Story #5: According to testimony given in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial, prosecution witness Robert Williams testified as late as 2004 that Barack Obama’s pal (graphic of Rezko) Tony Rezko was funneling money to then-Governor Rod Blagojevich's wife, Patti Blagojevich. Rezko was a close confidante of then-state Senator Barack Obama and Rezko reportedly played a role in real estate deals which benefited Obama. (end graphic) Williams, the former chief financial officer of Rezko's Rezmar company, testified Patti Blagojevich received payment for consulting. One check issued to Mrs. Blagojevich's company, River Realty, in January of 2004 totaled $40,000. Williams said he acted as an intermediary involving payments to Mrs. Blagojevich and her real estate firm. When Prosecutor Carrie Hamilton asked Williams whether he was aware of Mrs. Blagojevich doing any work for Rezko's firm--as a consultant or in any other capacity--Williams replied "no". Williams testified under a grant of immunity, but his testimony indicated there was an ongoing link between Rezko, the Blagojevich's and possibly Barack Obama, though Williams did not mention Obama's name during recent court proceedings.

Story #6: When the White House was busy selling its socialized medicine plan to the American people and Congress earlier this year, those suggesting the plan might force healthcare rationing were labeled fear mongers and alarmists. But were they right, after all? Last April, Donald Berwick, a traditional supporter of healthcare rationing, was nominated to the post of Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Last year, Berwick told Biotechnology Healthcare, “the decision is not whether or not we will ration care, the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open. And right now, we are doing it blindly.” Republicans were expected to try blocking the Berwick nomination, so Obama is now trying to sneak his appointment through during Congressional recess. -----------------
Story #7: “Not in my back yard!” That familiar chant is resounding throughout the New York area as concerned Americans voice their opposition to the construction of (graphic of Mosque protests) new Islamic centers in three different boroughs. Residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island are voicing their concerns over new mosques planned by the Muslim American Society, a group widely linked to a jihadist organization known at the Muslim Brotherhood. Perhaps the most controversial of the new mosques on the drawing board is proposed by the Cordoba Initiative and planned for construction just two blocks away from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center buildings. (end graphic) Recent polls indicate that 52 percent of New York City voters reject the Ground Zero Mosque and only 31 percent support it.
